QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Must possess a valid Nebraska Driver’s License.
3. Experience: General hands-on custodial experience with building upkeep.
4. Knowledge in the safe use of cleaning materials, equipment, and hand tools/power equipment.
5. The ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
6. The ability to work alone as well as with a team.
7. Professional cleaning experience helpful, but not mandatory.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)
- Maintains a level of cleanliness in assigned area/building.
- Operates vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, carpet extractors, and floor scrubbers including mop/bucket.
- Properly uses and stores common industrial cleaning chemicals provided by the district.
- Performs minor repairs to buildings and equipment within capabilities; reports all others to building Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisor.
- Responds to building administrators’ special needs and requests to keep the building running.
- Routinely checks heating and air conditioning equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the Head Custodian, Custodial Supervisor, or Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds.
- Informs Head Custodian when custodial supplies are needed.
- Performs building security as directed by Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisor.
- Reports any unsafe conditions to the Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisor.
- Removes outside trash of assigned building.
- Performs weekly inspections of playground equipment using the proper forms.
- Participates in snow and ice removal of assigned building.
- Communicates with building staff and students to ensure awareness of any special needs or concerns.
- Remains familiar with Disaster Plan and assigned duties in an emergency.
- Keeps assigned building environmentally safe for staff, patrons, and visitors.
- Maintains asbestos training to the two hour level minimum.
- Performs any other duties as requested or directed by the Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisor.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (Intellectual, Sensory)
- Practices correct chemical usage.
- Demonstrates proper equipment and tool usage.
- Uses good communication skills.
- Complies with safety guidelines using good common sense.
