Kearney Public Schools is accepting applications for Substitute Teachers for the 2020-2021 school year.

 

Serve in schools as a substitute teacher on an "as-needed" basis when the contract teacher is absent. Daily rate of pay for full day is $133/Day. Teaching or Substitute Teaching Certificate required.

 

 

Welcome to the Substitute Teacher Application process.

Substitute Teacher applications are accepted as needed throughout the school year. You will only be contacted if your application is complete and meets the substituting needs of the school district. It is your responsibility to make sure the necessary items are on file with the KPS Human Resources office.

 

The steps to be considered for Substitute teaching with Kearney Public Schools are outlined below.

  1. Application – Complete the online Substitute application.
  2. Credential file or Letters of Recommendation and Transcripts – attach to the online application or have sent to the Human Resources office, 320 W 24th St, Kearney NE 68845.
  3. Certification – Generally, a Teaching or Substitute Teaching Certificate. 
  4. Substitute teacher applicant file is reviewed to determine if applicant meets the substituting needs of the school district.
  5. Background check – receive clearance through the background check process.
  6. Substitute Orientation

  • CERTIFICATION

 Kearney Public Schools Substitute Teachers must hold a valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate. The Certificate may be a Teaching certificate or a Substitute Teaching certificate.  

 

  • APPLICATION

The online Substitute application through TalentEd Recruit & Hire must be completed to be considered for substituting. 

 

  • CREDENTIALS/TRANSCRIPTS

Please request from your college/university an official copy of your transcripts and credential file be sent to the Human Resources Department. If you do not have an active credential file, we will need to have the official transcript(s) from your college/university and three (3) letters of recommendation.

 

  • YOUR APPLICATION FILE

A Substitute application file will be established for you and to be considered for substitute teaching must contain the following:

                             (1) Completed Online KPS Application
                             (2) Credential File or Three (3) Letters of Recommendation                            

                             (3) Transcripts

Once the file is complete it will be reviewed by Human Resources. You will only be contacted if your application is complete and meets the substituting needs of the school district. It is your responsibility to make sure the necessary items are on file with the KPS Human Resources office.

  • .BACKGROUND CHECK

New substitute applicants, those who have been designated inactive (longer than one year) and those who have never substituted for Kearney Public Schools, will be required to complete pre-employment background screenings.

 

  • ORIENTATION

Once the background checks have been completed with the appropriate agencies and the candidate receives clearance for employment, a substitute orientation will be scheduled with Human Resources. All substitute applicants will be required to schedule and attend an employee orientation class before entering the classroom as a substitute. Orientation classes are scheduled and conducted by HR staff and the sessions will be held as needed.

This position is subject to a veterans' preference.
