GENERAL SUMMARY:
- Certified Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from an accredited program.
- Experience in healthcare of children and adolescents highly desirable.
- Responsible for delivering health services at building level in accordance with the Kearney Public Schools guidelines and policies.
- Excellent communication skills, flexibility and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Two-year degree preferred. Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant program required.
- Certification or Licensure: Valid Nebraska License as a Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant. Current CPR and First Aid Certificates.
- Experience as a Certified Medical Assistant Preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)
- Knows and complies with district policies, rules, and procedures.
- Knows and complies with State laws, regulations, and recommendations regarding school health and nursing services.
- Serves as a consultant to students, parents, teachers, administrators and others.
- Provide first aid to students and staff according to basic first aid procedures, utilizing proper techniques.
- Implements, and collects data through health screening program including referrals for professional evaluation and diagnosis.
- Provides professional supervision, direction and monitoring for the medication administration in accordance with the Medication Aid Act and within the scope of practice of the professional Registered Nurse.
- Implements individualized health care plans for all students as needed and supervises their care.
- Maintains accurate health records, reports and documentation.
- Supervises the activities of the school health office in a professional manner, assuring quality practice, accountability, confidentiality and accuracy of documentation.
- Promotes appropriate skills development, communication and teamwork in a positive working relationship with other building employees and health room team.
- Participates in building committees as a healthcare professional.
- Serves as a liaison between physicians, community agencies, families and school personnel and students.
- Participates in the training of health room para-professionals.
- Participates in professional organizations, staff development, health services teams and committee activities. This includes mandatory and punctual attendance at school nurse meetings, team meetings, and committee meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services, district head nurse and building administration.
